Alcaeus (/ælˈsiːəs/ ahl-SEE-uhs), known by its former name Typhon, is a natural satellite that forms when both Phobos and Deimos have been de-orbited and crashed into Mars. A large crumbling sound occurs as Alcaeus slowly grows in size and forms into a full moon. During solidification, Alcaeus will have long trenches appear across the moon, with these containing shockstones. Alcaeus will then fully solidify, and the trenches will disappear.
Appearance[]
Alcaeus is composed of slate, rock, and basalt, as well as a few lava patches, which will turn into basalt during solidification. Some remain after solidification ends, and these patches host the Shockstones.
Colonization[]
After Alcaeus forms, colonizing it can be extremely easy, as very high metal and very high water(?) can be found on Alcaeus. Despite not having natural gas, Alcaeus can be easily supplied with natural gas and other resources due to its proximity to Mars via depot/junction chains, drones, or freecam.
Shockstone[]
After Alcaeus is formed, it may take three minutes for shockstones to begin spawning on Alcaeus. Shockstones can be only found in ravines of Alcaeus or at Miranda. Each shockstone is worth $2,000 in spite of the fact that Alcaeus isn't fastest way to grind, but you may get the most money out of all other options to get money, it is a very good option for cash early game.
Trivia[]
- Alcaeus's original name was actually Ike, which is a reference to the game Kerbal Space Program where Ike is the name of a moon around the mars-like planet Duna. Later, it was changed to Typhon to be more original, but it came to its final name because people kept spelling it as Typhoon.
- Alcaeus has an incredibly high gravity for an object of its size, even exceeding that of Triton, which is 4x bigger. The second-highest gravity for a 256-stud wide celestial body is Charon, at 2.94% the surface gravity of Earth. This is most likely to stop the person on the moon from flying into Mars.
