Ceres is a dwarf planet that was added in the Release 20 update, and is situated in the middle in-between the Sun and Jupiter. It is similar in appearance to other small, icy bodies. It has an enormous sphere of influence, and its gravity is about 3.6 times higher than its real life counterpart to make sure you won't get flung into Jupiter.
Ceres has more asteroids around it than any other place in the game.
Colonization[]
Ceres has decent amount of metal and water but no gas, the only way to bring gas is through depot chain or using automated transport via Drones from Europa, Callisto, or elsewhere. Like Pluto, it is advised to get a jetpack to move around, because if you jump, or move to the wrong side of the planet, you will fly into the abyss or get sucked into Jupiter and die.
For getting metal, it is probably easier to get a claw, and a macerator, because asteroids are naturally attracted to Ceres. Because of Ceres's proximity to Mars, you can also use depot/junction chains to get gas and metal. Ceres is also has a high proximity to Europa, making Depot/Junction Chains easy to make from Europa, which is highly recommended due to it's high gas, water, and metal spots.
