Earth is the third planet from the Sun. It stands unique among the planets, bearing deep oceans and expansive continents, themselves host to various biomes. Earth is where players first spawn in and build ships. Additionally, Earth is in danger as it will be destroyed by Nibiru (in most occasions) and establishing a home outside of Earth can be facilitated by the terraforming of other celestial bodies (making more Earth-like).
Appearance
Earth is composed of terrain since Release 16 - Bigger and Better, Made of Ground, Mud, Sandstone, Ice and Rock. Earth has several continents and numerous smaller islands, meant to resemble the real-world Earth.
Galilean Invasion
Earth can be invaded by the Galileans if a player detonates a Nuke on Callisto. This will result in a fleet of ships coming from Callisto, which will attack any nearby players. The Galileans' chief weapon is their Mothership, which will approach the Earth in the event of their aggravation, and lay waste of any buildings necessary to space colonization, using its large sets of Artillery.
Alternatively, the Galileans may be angered by players setting up mining colonies on the surface of their homeworld, which will inspire them to steal the Earth's water in retribution.
Destruction by Nibiru
45-55 minutes after the beginning of a server, Earth will be destroyed by the rogue planet Nibiru.
The Moon
Like Earth, the Moon is made of terrain. It is composed of slate, rock, and basalt. Moonstones are spawned on its surface periodically, which are the first source of money for new players. The Moon will most of the time also get destroyed like Earth, although the time it happens occurs 3 minutes before Earth is about to be destroyed. There is a big chance the Moon survives though. If that's the case, you can terraform it.
Trivia
- The Earth seems to have a cloud texture that isn't consistent at the poles, as converting a flat texture onto a sphere can often have some unintended consequences.
- The only places where plots exist on earth are North America and South America.
- Certain mountains reach higher than the outer atmosphere, this is likely unintended behavior but it is probably added because some mountains in reality are high enough to kill humans without oxygen tanks.
- In the April fool's update, Earth cannot be destroyed by Nibiru likely due to the new terrain model, due to this the NPCs still survive. However the spawns still do not survive after the impact.
- It is one of the only planets to show it's atmosphere when you're outside of it, alongside Titan, and Venus.
- Earth actually has resources. Water and metal have been found on it, but it is unknown whether there is any natural gas. You cannot place buildings on it though.
