Solar System Exploration 2 Wiki

Jupiter is the largest planet in the game, and is three times larger than Earth, about the size of the Sun.

Appearance

Jupiter is characterized by the many colors in its bands, with dark belts and light zones. Some bands rotate faster than the rest of the planet. There is a grey core in the center.

Moons

In game, Jupiter has four moons, which are the four Galilean moons.

Io

"It gurgles in frustration"

One of the most dangerous places in the Solar System. Io's surface spawns many tiny volcanoes which will hurt the player upon contact and will explode about one minute after spawning. They emit smoke and the sound of gurgling lava is audible. Io has the greatest surface gravity of any moon in the Solar System. Io also has lava caves below its surface.

Europa

"The oceans call to us"

Europa is one of the most feature-rich places in the Solar System. If an explosive charge is detonated, a large hole forms in the surface. This allows access to a subsurface ocean, which contains corals, glowing beetles, trapfish, and massive deadly squids. The moon is split into multiple layers, each with its own unique features.

Ganymede

"The big one"

A mostly featureless gray ball, it is as large as Mercury and is terraformable. The Monolith appears here as well. Touching the Monolith of will spawn the Chrysalis, but it is defended by the Galileans. Ganymede has no substantial amounts of extractable gas, making importing via Depot Chain or Drones the only realistic way of supplying a Mill or Refueler on the moon.

Terraforming

Ganymede can be terraformed in a process similar to Mars. Lowlands will go underwater during terraforming. Formerly, the slate material would be replaced with water leading to inescapable caverns.

Ganymede's quote does not change depending on terraforming or industrializing progress, nor in relation to the status of other terraformable planets.

Callisto

"Watching from the shadows"

Callisto is home to the pastel yellow Galilean Squids. They are currently the only source of the Alien Fuselage, as Turrets have been added as a mill item and Drives can be created with an alien processor. An alien invasion can be activated by nuking Callisto. The harbored Mothership will become active, and freeze Earth if Nibiru hasn't destroyed it or go into orbit around Nibiru, attacking Mars until the ship dies. You can push the Mothership into a gas giant to get rid of the aliens.

Upon nuking Callisto, it's quote will change to "Destiny or fate?".

Callisto itself is gray moon of Jupiter that was hollowed out by the Galileans. You can enter the hollow moon by dropping through 1 of 2 entrances near the north pole, where there is also a shack which has a yellow alien to talk to. Under the crust of Callisto is a giant city complete with huge skyscrapers, crystals, cars and a government building or temple, where the Galilean leader Saffra can be talked to.
