Nibiru is a dark blue, rogue gas giant passing through the Solar System. Nibiru will hit and destroy The Moon (In some occasions) and Earth (in most occasions), usually in that sequence and in 40-55 minutes. Nibiru itself is a gas giant, so it is barren and practically useless. It can be tracked using the Nibiru Tracker on Earth.
Since Nibiru is a gas planet, it does not have a surface to land on. Flying into Nibiru will not destroy your ship immediately, but your ship will get destroyed once you get closer to the center. If you fall into Nibiru without a ship, you will also die once you get close to the center.
Appearances[]
Nibiru's size is about two thirds of the size of Jupiter (2 times the size of Earth or the same size as Saturn). Nibiru has bands that are varying shades of blues, from dark blue to a slightly lighter blue, similar to Jupiter. Nibiru may have rings in some servers. Small, much lighter spots appear in clusters or alone, scattered across the texture. When lightning flashes, a small part of Nibiru may be lit up, and then settle back to a normal brightness after 1-3 seconds.
Variations[]
Patch 20.18 added random variations which can alter the trajectory and appearance of Nibiru before the game starts:
- 1/10 chance for Nibiru to hit Earth from the South Pole. This trajectory leaves the Moon untouched, allowing players to set up permanent Moon bases.
- 1/3 chance for either trajectory to be reversed; Nibiru hits Earth from the opposite side. This causes the Earth to be destroyed before the Moon. In the case of the vertical trajectory scenario, Nibiru hits Earth from the North Pole.
- 1/20 chance for Nibiru to have a different texture based on Melancholia which is actually based on Ganymede. Nibiru reverts to its regular texture after colliding with Earth, however.
- 1/5 chance for Nibiru to possess a thin set of rings akin to those of Uranus. Unlike the alternate texture, these rings will remain around Nibiru after Earth's destruction.
Trivia[]
- Nibiru will slowly drift away from the Solar System after impacting Earth, with it leaving the Solar System entirely at some point.
- Before Release 16, flashes of lightning could be seen periodically on the planet, and if the player was close, thunder could be heard (this mostly happened if it's near Earth or the Moon). They were removed after Release 16 for "lagging" the game. However, in Release 19, they were added back. They can be heard only if you're close to the planet.
- Nibiru is sometimes referred to as "the big blue planet", among other misspellings of its name.
- Nibiru passes Jupiter at about 20 Earth radii, destroys the moon at 2.4 radii, and annihilates Earth at 0.
- Nibiru is also the only planet to change color through a process other than terraforming.
- On April fools, Nibiru's name is randomly misspelled.
- In private servers, Nibiru could be paused causing it to not hit earth, however this feature was removed due to a bug where it did not work.
- Nibiru shares the name with a planet that was involved with the 2012 scare, but it was soon debunked by some scientists.
- When you are on earth, and Nibiru is close, you can hear audios of an avalanche.
