Solar System Exploration 2 Wiki

Titan is Saturn's largest moon and is one of the largest explorable celestial bodies in the game, tied in size with Ganymede and Callisto.

Appearance[]

Titan features a thick, orange atmosphere, resembling Venus’s but with a distinct yellow tint from the surface. This creates low visibility. The terrain is rocky and yellow, with vast pools of damaging purple methane lakes.

When terraformed:

  • Methane lakes vanish.
  • The terrain "shreds" into floating snow-like layers unless covered by structures.
  • Some areas remain intact around buildings.
  • The original terrain becomes an icy core beneath the floating layer.

Resources[]

Titan is rich in:

  • **Natural Gas**
  • **Metal**
  • **Water**

This combination makes it ideal for early colonization and building Refuelers without needing imported fuel. It’s a major gas hub for supply chains across the system.

Colonization[]

Titan is one of the few terraformable bodies, alongside: Mars, Venus, The Moon, and Ganymede.

Terraforming effects:

  • **No buildings:** terrain becomes a floating snow layer.
  • **With buildings:** “shredding” occurs, forming holes around structures.

Colonists often build on the upper snow layer post-terraform, but it's also possible to move bases to the core layer below.

Non-Terraforming Strategy[]

If left unterraformed, Titan can still be settled using Domes, spawns, and air tanks. This method avoids shredding, often favored in private or solo servers. In public servers, terraforming is much more common.

Export Role[]

Titan frequently acts as a gas supplier to:

Trivia[]

  • Titan’s atmosphere originally reused Venus’s cloud textures.
  • Terraforming was added due to community demand.
  • It is the only Saturnian moon that can be terraformed.
  • Using a window panel bypasses atmospheric fog visually.
  • Titan is among the top three moons for Natural Gas yield, along with Callisto and Europa.
